What now?

Why does this blog exist?

I'm sick of the anti-progress crowd wrapping themselves in a blanket of tradition and so-called tax-payer responsibility.

I'm sick of a mayor with no vision or plan for the future of this city.

Halifax has a choice: remain wrapped in quaintness, or become a dynamic city of the 21st century.

Do we want our city to become a "what it was" or "a what it could be"?

Some of the most creative and forward thinking people in the world live here.

But not for long, not if we don't change.

I'm not one to think ill of my fellow man.

I live by what I call the "Alamo rule" (kudos to Dave Barry).

If you go to Florida, you will  find insane drivers. People cutting across 4 lanes, going  reverse on ramps, that sort of stuff.

Without fail, the car always has an Alamo rental sticker on it.

The locals call bad drivers "Alamos".

I know that at that moment in time the drivers think that their actions make sense.

We are all Alamos.

That said, Media Darling Bruce Devenne has lost it.

Subject: What happened to the Amalgamation rainbow???

When Liberal Premier John Savage shoved amalgamation down our throats we were told it would be great less costly to run the city, more efficient government etc. It had more hype than the Commonwealth Games and Canada Winter games combined yet. Here we are facing tax increases annually. Any homeowner knows that the combination of tax increases, user fee increases, loss of services and or assessment increases have the HRM homeowner facing rising taxes that annually out strip inflation. Why?

Perhaps it's time that the local residents ass'ns asked the premier to send in the auditor general and go over the books and see exactly what is going on. For example how much have we spent chasing the commonwealth games over the past 6-7 years?

A lot more than anybody is saying.

It's time that the homeowner speaks up and says stop, enough is enough.

Tell the province to stop dipping into our tax coffers and tell City council to get back to basics and deal with what they are mandated to do and supply and stay out of entertainment and games. This is Halifax Nova Scotia in the year 2007 not Rome on the reign of Nero.

Bruce DeVenne

He talks about King Savage forcing HRM down our throats and goes after council for not making the cost savings that he agrees don't exist.

There is not a single example of amalgamation working in North America.

But then he blames city council  for not making it work.

The great thing about not being elected is that you continue to spam  real  council members, and then send out emails offering to help people with meetings and such.

Bruce, just admit your motive for all this.

I have the email declaring you're offering for council.

It is great to accuse others  of being Nero, when you are Brutus..

I said its time city hall stood up to the province I didn't blame city hall. When you are old enough to appreciate taxes, how many different ways government takes form you, the on going cutting of services and the total you wind up paying annually, you will agree with me. Just out of curiosity why don't you people sign your work? Ashamed???
